  16. <p>A search for dirt on Perot and Clinton costs an official her
  17. job
  18. </p>
  19. <p>    The passport-file scandle at the U.S. State Department has
  20. claimed a victim. Swamped by allegations that her subordinates
  21. searched the passport records of Ross Perot, Bill Clinton and
  22. Clinton's mother Virginia Kelley during the presidential
  23. campaign, Assistant Secretary of State Elizabeth M. Tamposi was
  24. forced to resign her post. Tamposi released a statement saying,
  25. in part, "I took no action that I deemed wrong or
  26. inappropriate." Not only that: she has reportedly told auditors
  27. that political appointee John F.W. Rogers, Under Secretary of
  28. State for Management, approved the search of Clinton's files.
  29. Investigators are also examining whether anyone from the White
  30. House or the Bush re-election campaign was involved. Commented
  31. Clinton: "If I catch anybody using the State Department like
  32. that when I'm President, you won't have to wait until after the
  33. election to see them gone."
